What is MSE?
- MSE = Mechanical Specific Energy
- First conceptualized and presented by R Teale in “The Concept of Specific Energy in Rock Drilling”, Intnl Journal of Rock Mechanics & Mining Science in 1965
- MSE = energy input per unit volume rock drilled
- MSE is widely used in the drilling industry to optimize drilling efficiency during operations, enhancing drilling motor design and optimizing bit usage
- In ideal conditions MSE = UCS
